No not really. Any Heros fan needs to know that quote though. Great show, check it out. Anyway, the last few days we talked about this boat situation. We had to pick people off the boat in order to help some survive. Now while most people will save this pregnant cheerleader character, I would rather choose someone with more to show to this word. Yes, if we save her and I guess her boyfriend too, we can add 1 more life to this world. But, look at the lives we have on this boat. We know for sure that these people are successful, why give up there life for a potential child that might not be so bright. And why must we keep this baby around when the world already has almost 7 billion people? That’s just the start of it. My real argument is why does she get special treatment because she is pregnant? And since when do we count a pregnant person as two people? Some do, but I don’t see why. This gets me to the argument of abortion and blah, blah, blah, with all the conservatives BS. Any who, why does she get special treatment? She is a human just like the rest of them. And in class today, we talked about keeping on the strong, and she clearly isn’t strong almost being due. Another point I have is that look at what this couple has accomplished, they did silly things like play football. I don’t think there was much effort on education made by these two if what they care about is sports. Even if the Nobel prize in literature guy isn’t all what hes known to be, he still got farther in his life then these two probably have. Why waste room on a boat for a family that isn’t likely to impact this world? I really don’t think this baby is going to be the next Einstein, and even if he was, it would take another 15+ years for this world to see that. Thanks for reading!

To Jenny: yes but right now, we have already cut off some talented people like the lit guy, why keep her?
To Sal: yes i know its a little bit off the point of the micro world they made, but, if i were on that ship, i wouldn't want someone like thats life to go before mine. why should i die because im not pregnant?
I think it's wrong to throw the pregnant lady off of the boat. She has another human being inside of her, and wouldnt you rather save 2 lives than 1? You said you dont think she counts as 2 people but she clearly does if there is another person in her. Also, you said that they havent accomplished much in their lives becuase they arent smart. Maybe they don't have the brains to be the next einstein, but who does? They accomplished many things in their lives, just things other than being smart. And being smart isnt the only important thing. By saving the mother and the husband, you are saving 3 lives. And since all 3 of them are still young, they can go on in their lives and do other things to help the world.

ReplyDeleteI respect your individual decision, but you have to see that there is a general trend among our class as well as all of the classes I taught to save the preg. cheerleader. I do not think it is a political idea, it is a cultural value. Americans love the idea of youth and the future. That is how most students who do this assignment see the prego lady. Can you see that? Try to separate from your own personal beliefs to understand the sociology.
